Edit to add: same article for 2 x 4 set up, "Both setups use two 4-bbl Holley Carbs. A big Holley 4-BBL Carburetor C5AF-9510-BU, rated at 780 CFM is offset on top to provide equal runners for tuned induction." Many other references to CFM in that book. For example: "Modifying 427 Medium Riser" "Carburetion: 4V-This setup features a dual plane, equal runners offset manifold C6AZ-9424-M. Many references to carb CFM for upgrades. 29/50071-2Ford did use CFM numbers for their carbs, check any Muscle Parts book. It only leads to confusion when there is nothing concrete to hang your hat on. No doubt those carbs have a CFM rating, but it is really not that important to give it a number when so many people have different CFM ideas for the same carb. Ford didn't give out that number in any of the documents they printed. The 652 CFM is a description of any number of carbs.

Same size butterflies and venturies as other Holley Carbs we know are rated at 715 CFM." YOU posted on 2/14 at 7:14 PM, and stated " The only carbs used on 8V 427 Fairlane, (C5AF). On 2/24 at 1:16 PM I stated that the 652 Holleys came on the 427 Cobra, and on the R Code Fairlanes, Comets and Galaxies I'm not good a computers, can't cut and paste, I'll try to link it, but just in case, here you go. 29/50071-2Boy, you just never will admit when your wrong, funny. But not very specific, and misleading, and unnecessary. If you want to call them a certain CFM then that's fine. All Ford gave them was the ID numbers, C5AF-9510-BC and C5AF-9510-BD. I keep trying to tell you that Ford didn't assign a CFM number to the 427 MR carbs.

They are correct for a 427 MR in any model year, in any body style, Cobra, Fairlane, Comet or full size Ford.ġ915 Model T Ford touring Black of course!ġ968 Cougar GTE 427 Augusta Green / Saddle The part numbers I supplied - C5AF 9510-BC and C5AF 9510-BD cannot be mistaken for anything else. I sent the photo of the VIN to Marti Auto Works they responded and said it is legitimate and correct, the numeric code designation was for a low compression export engine. My Fairlane came with the "715" carbs and when Ford sent me the new super stock kit, tunnel wedge, larger dome pistons, special 'SK' heads and ta da,652 cfm carbs as they told me and the venturi boosters looked like WWII German helmets.Regardless of the numbers on the air horn. You don't have to correct everything someone says. But that is your choice. The 652 CFM is a description of any number of carbs. Once I had solid evidence of the VIN number with its numeric engine code I knew I had a pretty good chance to solve the mystery. I then received the photo and there in the photo clear as day was a ford VIN with a numeral for the engine code. I was a little confused and figured that the VIN was not completely readable or somebody had re-stamped the VIN on the vehicle down in Ecuador, so I requested a photo of the VIN so I could verify the quality of the stamping and the location. I am working with a client located in Ecuador on his project and requested the VIN number so I could properly identify the engine in his 1965 Mustang, he promptly emailed it over to me for review you guessed it, it had a number in the position of the engine code. The Mustang VIN number has a letter within it that identifies the engine that was installed in the car take for instance the vehicle Identification Number for Project Playboy: Project Playboys VIN: 7R01C186352 7Īll of the engine codes for classic Mustangs are designated by a letter as seen below for the 1965 Mustang model year: 1965 Mustang Engine Codes Code Lets take a look at the well known and accepted standard VIN for a classic Mustang and break it down: Have you ever seen a classic Mustang VIN number that had a numeric engine code?
